Earlier today MTV Video Music Awards nominees were announced. Lady Gaga received a record setting 13 nominations, while Eminem received eight and Florence and the Machine received five. Justin Bieber only received one nomination. Wait a minute, the kid is having his very own 3d biopic but only gets one nomination?

Adam Lambert didn’t get any nominations. Glam Nation members are angry that the ex “American Idol” contestant didn’t receive at least one nod for any of his videos such as “If I Had You” where Lambert rocks out while sporting a mullet ponytail on what looks to be a “Twilight” movie set along with a cast that looks like they are from “Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome” and “Moulin Rouge.” By the way, that’s a compliment.

Lambert fans, of course, are not the only people irritated with the VMA nominations. Fans of Rihanna, who received only one nomination, Britney Spears and the Black Eyed Peas all are voicing their objections via Twitter and blog comments. The Twitter tag #MTVFAIL is growing in popularity.

Did MTV mess up the nominations this year? Does it matter? When is Kayne West going to Tweet about the issue? That might be a while. Kayne is headed for Asia.

Seriously though, the VMAs have gotten so ridiculous. It really seems to be a complete waste of time and energy even bothering to get upset with them. How on earth did Ke$sha’s “My First Kiss” video get nominated? This video looks like it’s from 1983. No, that’s not a compliment.

It’s not easy to be Adam Lambert. Not only would you have to put layers of eyeliner and black mascara and be leather-clad in every show but you would also have to be numb and stay ignorant amidst the very offensive messages being thrown at you every night, right outside your concert venue.

This is the exact scenario from Lambert’s “Glam Nation” show last night, July 15, at the Midland Theater in Kansas City, MO. The show was sold-out, as usual, but it also called the attention of all the artist’s conservative and religious haters – all five of them.

Based from the photo that Lambert posted, there were only indeed five protesters from the Westboro Baptist Church outside the Midland Theater and one of them, sadly, is a child (isn’t he a wee bit young to be caught up in such a morality mess?). From “hate” to “fag” to “coward”, all these signs could really piss anyone who’s not new to such, but Adam Lambert took the high road instead.

“God doesn’t hate”, was Lambert’s simple yet clear cut response to them. True enough as this is the message of Lambert’s latest chart topping single, “If I Had You” – love and acceptance.

Soon after graduating from “American Idol”, Adam Lambert’s career took off a hundred fold. He released his debut album, “For Your Entertainment”, months after the talent show came to a close and has proved to be a chart-topping success for the out-of-the-box performer. Right now, he is busy performing all over the US and Canada for his “Glam Nation” tour, with his most devoted fans really taking the time out to see every one of his shows, wherever it may be.

Now the question is what’s next for Lambert? In an industry where most American Idols – finalists and winners – fade out as quickly as they have risen to fame, everyone is keeping Lambert on the watch to see if he has what it takes to stay long in the business. With a huge fan base he easily secured during his “Idol” stint and with a style that is completely his own, he might just have what it takes.

While the artist will be spending most of 2010 touring to promote his debut release, there are plans of releasing a fourth single following up the success of “If I Had You”. Lambert and his record label are trying to move smartly here. In a recent interview, the artist was quoted saying, “…definitely in 2011, the plan is to do a new album”.

That’s definitely good news for both his fans and his critics, as we’re sure that we’ll never run out of “Glambert” music, at least, till next year.

And one of the major surprises was Lambert’s demographic for the night.

The Nokia Theater was flooded with mostly women aged 30 to 50, a surprising audience for a gay male performer who sings rock infested tunes instead of the Las Vegas-ish tunes we’ve grown accustomed to from other flamboyantly gay artists like Elton John. After all, most “Idol” graduates would have a fan base of teens and yuppies but not women who may be in their or past their prime, I’m just saying.

The show started with fellow “Idol” alum Allison Iraheta whose fiery set was a sneak preview of the things to come for that evening. The red head performer started her set with “Holiday” which had Iraheta taking and embracing the stage as if it was her own show, bouncing from one corner to the next, which caught everyone by a thrilling surprise since she wasn’t this energetic during her stint in the talent show which both she and Lambert shared a season with. Next she broke out the ballad “Scars” with a smooth transition to the upbeat “Don’t Waste the Pretty”, which is her current single. “Pretty” had Iraheta delivering the vocal stylings that people have come to love during “Idol”, plus, it also featured a guest guitar sampling from Australian newcomer Orianthi who also opened the show next to Iraheta, who closed her set with the deeply meaningful “Heartbreaker”.

Orianthi, on the other hand, delivered the longest nine-song set anyone has heard, at least for that night. Needless to say, when she graced the stage, she should’ve just wooed the audience with her fancy guitar antics, which is actually good but she should’ve left it at that. Not to say that her singing abilities when she hit on breakout hit “According to You”, and other tracks like “Shut Up and Kiss Me” and “Courage” was an epic failure. No. But it was how she didn’t rock the stage that was kind of a failure. Her voice is undoubtedly promising, and so are her songs, like “Think Like a Man”. But maybe she just needs to perform more often to know how to really create a sensation from the stage to the audience. It can be learned though, but some, like Iraheta and Adam Lambert, are just born to do it, which is special.

“Voodoo” and “Down the Rabbit Hole” both opened the Glam Nation show proper with Lambert getting everyone on their feet with dance moves from his similarly Gothic looking dancers and Lambert’s unmatched vocal prowess that sends shivers to his audiences’ spine. For those who are wondering, these two tracks do not appear in the regular edition of Lambert’s debut album “For Your Entertainment”. “Voodoo” is included in the artist’s remix EP while “Rabbit Hole” is a bonus track from the album’s pre-order copies via iTunes.

Lambert continued the party with “Fever”, a track written by fellow out-of-the-box and openly gay artist Lady Gaga, and “Sleep Walker” which was penned by “Gravity” singer Ryan Tedder. After which, the laser lights were switched off and the spotlight was solely focused on Lambert when he performed an intimate medley of “Whataya Want from Me”, “Soaked” and “Aftermath”. He also had a blast from the American-Idol-past moment when he performed “Mad World”, though not as good as when he first performed the track on the TV show, “Ring of Fire” which also debuted on “Idol” and “Whole Lotta Love”, which Lambert managed to make it his own through an enigmatic sound that is quite distant from its original Led Zeppelin arrangement. The track also brought the show to a tantric and climactic conclusion.

Of course, the party would not be complete without performing tracks like “Sure Fire Winners”, “Strut”, “Music Again” and his current chart topping single “If I Had You”, which in my opinion, should have been the closing theme as a reverence to his millions of fans who have come not only from various US cities, but also from other countries such as New Zealand, just to see him perform in his “heels on, right amount of leather” and “black eyeliner” (lyrics from “If I Had You”).

What made this party a real success was not only Lambert’s repertoire; in fact, it was mostly Lambert’s on-stage presence that pumped the crowd up. Blame it on his theatrical background or gayness, but at one moment he’ll be a ringleader, teasing the crowd with his subtle moves and gestures, then a male siren on the next while reminding the audience that it is that voice – a high octave pop tenor quality – that made him the biggest favorite in the 8th season of American Idol, if only his fans didn’t become too complacent to vote, he probably would’ve won the title, too. Lambert knows how to work up a crowd, from his voice, to his struts, to his one-liners like “You chase your tail to enough bars and then realize the answer is in here.” while putting his palm on his chest, and another one-liner from “Whataya Want from Me”: “It’s me, I’m a freak. But thanks for loving me, ’cause you’re doing it perfectly”, which almost literally brought the house down with resounding roars and screams from the audience.

Lambert’s Glam Nation show was a blast, to say the least. But I had never experienced such interaction from the performer to the crowd, and vice-versa till this show. For those who have missed it, well, yes you did miss on a lot especially if you’re a certified “Glambert” fan but no worries, the Glam Nation tour is still on the road for the rest of the summer.

The gathering on Wednesday night of American Idol’s royalty was unprecedented. All former winners of “American Idol” were onstage at Nokia Theatre except one. They sang a song for Simon Cowell, mentor and departing judge.

Taylor Hicks, Kris Allen, Jordin Sparks, Fantasia, Ruben Studdard, Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson were lined up together, giving a very rousing performance of “Together We Are One” by Deltra Goodrem. The icons from “Idol,” who were mainly wearing black, also were joined by almost two dozen past season finalists, including favorites like Elliot Yamin, Bo Bice, Michael Johns, David Archuleta and Jason Castro.

David Cook, season seven winner, was the only champion that was missing. Cook said the reason he wasn’t able to attend was due to a prior commitment in Kansas City for a charity event for cancer. During his “American Idol” run, Cook paid tribute to his brother, now deceased, who during Cook’s time on “Idol” was battling cancer. Cook did tweet congratulations to Lee DeWyze for his win. He congratulated him saying he was sorry he wasn’t there to see all his fellow idols, but was there in spirit.

Adam Lambert, runner-up of last year’s “American Idol” competition, was conspicuously absent as well. A report earlier that day was circulated that Lambert was dropped from the performance due to not attending rehearsal. Another report was that Lambert’s doctor had ordered that he rest his vocals. Yet another report was that he hadn’t been invited.

All of the rumors were vigorously denied by Lambert in a series of fiery tweets. He said he would have loved being at the American Idol Finale and say farewell to Simon and give his support to the finalist, but that the tour for his fans was his top priority. Later he elaborated saying that after he had become more aware of the rumor mill and gossip, that he hadn’t been asked to make an appearance in any capacity in the finale and that he had gotten a throat bug that was probably caught on his flight back from Boston after his concert. Lambert further explained that on Tuesday he had been placed on a vocal rest following tour rehearsals.

Lashing out over what he considered irresponsible reporting regarding his absence, Lambert also said that it was sad he was forced defending himself. No one who had pointed fingers had any factual details. I’m working very hard on the tour. The only thing I heard was you weren’t asked to be part of the finale performance. Do you want to be in the audience. My reply sorry, today I have too much work.

PopEater.com created a lot of the drama. Earlier that day they claimed to have an exclusive on all the chaos behind the alleged no-show by Lambert. The report was lambasted by a Lambert rep, stating that the story of Lambert not showing up for rehearsals was completely false.

Spokesperson Roger Widynowski stated that like most of the finalists for “Idol,” producers had approached Lambert to be part of Cowell’s alumni tribute. However over the weekend Lambert came down with laryngitis. Due to the fact that the “Glam Nation Tour” was scheduled to started on June 4, Lambert was put on vocal rest. Widynowski said he never missed rehearsal and was never confirmed for performing on the show. He did disagree with charges that Lambert’s absence was due to his diva behavior. It was confirmed by Widynowski that on May 19 Lambert did send a provocative tweet out stating that he wouldn’t be in the final. Lambert wrote, not performing, unfortunately, at Idol’s Finale. I guess plenty of artists are already booked.

Bowersox, 24, along with Casey James and Lee DeWyze are the the final three contestants left in the American Idol competition on Fox.

When Hollywood Life asked Lambert while at Wango Tango who he would like to see as the winner, Lambert said that he thought the Crystal was great and that he loved her anti-establishment attitude.

Last season, Lambert was the American Idol runner-up. This year he returned to the show to be a guest mentor. Earlier, he described Bowersox, James, DeWyze and Michael Lynche, who placed fourth, as all really great singers.

Lambert added that all four have authentic and really strong voices. At this point it will come down to them being able to differentiate themselves from their competition.

Last year’s runner-up in the “American Idol” competition has dates set for his summer tour. Two opening acts have also been added: Orianthi, singer-guitarist, who made two appearances this season on “Idol,” and Allison Iraheta, fellow “American Idol” finalist.

On June 4, “Glam Nation Tour” is set to kick off in Wilkes-Barre, PA. It will then visit medium sized venues in the eastern US as well as one visit to Canada during the months of June and July. On July 27 and 28 the only stop on the West Coast will occur when the tour performs at Orange County Fair for a two night stand. The outing will conclude on September 18 in St. Petersburg, FL at Tropicana Field, the biggest venue on the tour.

Iraheta and Lambert have performed together before on the “American Idol” tour last summer, and a show in February where they were on stage with Idol winner Kris Allen. Lambert said I’m a big Allison music fan. I’m very excited she will be performing live for audiences. Allison is all rock and roll. We have fantastic brother-sister energy.

Orianthi, who along with Iraheta and Lambert, is represented by 19 Entertainment, “Idol” producer, played guitar on Lambert’s album on the song “Sleepwalker.” She also has her own hit single “According to You.” Earlier this season, Orianthi performed on Idol’s result show and was in the backing band for Mary J Blige for”Idol Gives Back.”

While appearing on “The Tonight Show” with his fiancee Mezghan Hussainy, Simon Cowell, American Idol” judge, refused to elaborate on their engagement, but he did say that last season Adam Lambert should have been the winner.

When Jay attempted to get Cowell to confirm the engagement, Simon said there was someone special in his life and that he had made the decision to make someone happy this year. He then blushed and said they had been together for about a week.

Then Simon sang the praises for Crystal Bowersox, his favorite Idol from this season. He’s decided to back this horse. What would Cowell had said if Crystal had a bad week? He also said Adam Lambert, in terms of being an overall artist, last year should have won.

Adam Lambert told Entertainment Weekly that he has started to plan a tour. It will probably begin Spring 2010.

Lambert said, I think it will probably be in the springtime most likely. I have started to talk with management about us putting together something. I don’t think it will be one of those standard arena tours. We want to do something a little big different than that. The big goal that I have is wanting to create my show. I really want to be able to do something that is really visually dynamic. I want some that has more of an interactive feel to it that the typical arena tour does. We are looking at different venues. They will probably be somewhat smaller and more intimate.

On December 21 Adam will appear on NBC on Jay Leno’s show. And on December 31 he will be at Gridlock’s New Year’s Eve part in Los Angeles, CA at Paramount Studios.
